Special traffic and transport arrangements for public procession in Wan Chai and Central districts on Sunday

    The Transport Department (TD) today (February 17) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central from about 2pm on Sunday (February 19) to facilitate the holding of a public procession (including a bicycle procession).

     The public procession and the bicycle procession will start from East Point Road in Causeway Bay at about 3.30pm on that day, and take the following routes respectively with the destination being the new Central Government Offices at Tamar:

1. Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, across Queensway, Queensway pavement, Rodney Street, Harcourt Road pavement, the new Central Government Offices footbridge and Tim Mei Avenue; and

2. Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, Queen's Road Central westbound, Pedder Street, Connaught Place, Man Yiu Street, Lung Wo Road, the underpass outside the Legislative Council Complex and Tim Mei Avenue.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

Phase I

     The following roads will be closed from about 2pm:

1. Jardine's Bazaar;
2. Tang Lung Street;
3. The section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street;
4. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
5. The section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
6. The section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
7. Kai Chiu Road;
8. The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
9. The section of Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road;
10. Hennessy Road westbound west of Lee Garden Road and Queensway eastbound will be intermittently closed; and
11. The section of Rodney Street southbound between Harcourt Road and Drake Street.

Phase II

     The underpass eastbound outside the Legislative Council Complex will be closed from about 3pm until the crowd disperses.
 
Public transport services
-------------------------

(a) A total of 36 bus routes and a green minibus route operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. All bus stops along the procession routes will be suspended. Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

(b) The green minibus stand at Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended.

Closure of car parks
--------------------

     All car parks along Hennessy Road westbound and Rodney Street may be closed at short notice if necessary.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services as far as possible. Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of directions of the Police in the affected areas.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as and when necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
