TD to fine-tune electronic audible traffic signal

The Transport Department (TD) will further improve the performance of the electronic audible traffic signal (eATS) through fine tuning and adjustments to meet the expectation of the visually impaired persons.

After meeting with representatives of the Hong Kong Blind Union (HKBU) and Legislative Council member Mr Leung Yiu-chung this (August 21) morning, a TD spokesman said: "The meeting was conducted in a good and friendly atmosphere. We have thoroughly exchanged views and comments on the installation of the eATS in Hong Kong."

He said: " The Department continues to keep an open mind on all comments and suggestions received from the HKBU and other relevant organizations on the installation of the eATS."

The Department has followed up improvement measures suggested by some visually impaired organisations.

The spokesman said: "We have made arrangements for all visually impaired organizations, including the HKBU, to witness the demonstration next week."

He said: "Through maintaining continuous dialogue and fine tuning/adjusting the device, we are confident that the HKBU will accept the eATS."
