Special traffic and transport arrangements for Chung Yeung Festival

Grave-sweepers are reminded to make fuller use of public transport services during the Chung Yeung Festival period as traffic in areas near cemeteries will be much busier than usual. Special traffic and transport arrangements will be made to facilitate crowd control and ensure road safety.

"Certain roads giving access to cemeteries will be closed or have their traffic diverted, and on-street parking spaces in the vicinity of cemeteries will be temporarily suspended," a Transport Department spokesman said today (September 26).

"Moreover, the Transport Department will designate some temporary taxi stands and divert some green minibus routes and relocate some green minibus terminuses.

"For these reasons, people should try to give up private transport and make use of public transport services to avoid traffic congestion."

Grave-sweepers are also asked to be patient in crowds and go to cemeteries early or on other non-festive days if possible.

Special bus service Route No. 14S between Lei Yue Mun Road and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be suspended on September 28 and October 1, 4, 5, 12 and 19. Grave-sweepers should be prepared to walk the access road to the cemetery.

"The service suspension will facilitate Police crowd-control measures since a large number of grave-sweepers is expected to go to the cemetery," the spokesman said.

"Service on Route No. 14S will be available between 7am and 5.25pm on September 27 and October 11, 18 and 25. If they can, grave-sweepers should consider going to the cemetery on other non-festive days," the spokesman added.

Details of special traffic and transport arrangements for Hong Kong Island, Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin, Tuen Mun, Wo Hop Shek, Sandy Ridge, Sha Tin and Kwai Tsing are available on the Transport Department's website, http://www.info.gov.hk/td/chi/notice/notice_index.html.
