Allow more time for journeys tomorrow

The Transport Department has reminded the public to allow more time for their journeys tomorrow morning (September 10) as travelling may take longer than usual in view of the possible industrial action by bus drivers.

Bus passengers are advised to be patient and tolerant if buses travel at a relatively slow speed, and to queue up for boarding and alighting at bus stops.

They are also advised to use the MTR for travelling and to avoid driving to busy areas as far as possible.

The department will activate the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre from 6am tomorrow to monitor the traffic situation, which may be affected by the possible work-to-rule industrial action by bus drivers.

It will liaise closely with relevant bus companies and the Police to ensure that bus services are not seriously affected and that road conditions are reasonably maintained. The department has also alerted the MTRC that it should strengthen its services.

It urged both the bus company management and drivers' representatives to continue discussions to find a mutually acceptable solution to the dispute.
