Chung Yeung Festival special traffic and transport arrangements

The Transport Department today (October 5) reminded that as large numbers of grave sweepers are expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge during the Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in the vicinity of these areas.

Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery
----------------------------------------

Road closures for the coming Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to those for last year. The access road leading to the cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic, apart from emergency vehicles, from 5.30am to 8pm on October 23 (the day of the Chung Yeung Festival).

General road closure will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on October 7, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28, and November 4, 11 and 18. All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except for KMB special bus route No. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses and vehicles in funeral processions and with valid entry permits issued by the cemetery. KMB's special bus route No. 14S, running between Lei Yue Mun Road, Yau Tong and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery, will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm on the dates in which general road closure is implemented.

Grave sweepers going to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery on foot may use the access road on Ko Chiu Road or the footpath opposite MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station. As there are steps on the footpath, grave sweepers on wheelchairs are advised to use the access road on Ko Chiu Road to go to the cemetery.

Wo Hop Shek, Fanling
--------------------

Kiu Tau Road (except hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on October 13, 14, 20, 21, 23, 27 and 28. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will only be open to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.

On October 13, 14, 20, 21, 23, 27 and 28, special traffic management measures and restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to on-site road signs and the instructions of the Police.

On October 23 (the day of the Chung Yeung Festival), KMB route No. 76S will operate between MTR Fanling Station and Wo Hop Shek; KMB route No. 70S (To Wah Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek) and No. 74S (MTR Lam Tin Station - Wo Hop Shek) will also provide services via the Tolo Highway.

Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area
---------------------------------

Except for those with Closed Road Permits (CRPs), all vehicles will be prohibited from gaining access to Sandy Ridge between 6am and 6pm during the period from October 8 to November 11.

From 6am to 6pm on October 21, 23 and 28, Lo Wu Station Road from its junction with Man Kam To Road to a point about 280 metres west of the same junction (near the management office of Sandy Ridge Cemetery) will be closed to all vehicles, except for emergency vehicles, vehicles of Lo Wu Village residents with CRPs and vehicles with CRPs allowed to park at the car park of MTR Lo Wu Station.

Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route No. 73K or green minibus route No. 59K at Sheung Shui or the MTR East Rail Line to Lo Wu. KMB route No. 73K service will be strengthened on October 21, 23 and 28 if necessary.
