Market research exercise for New Parking Meter Trial Scheme launched

The Transport Department (TD) announced today (April 16) that a trial scheme on the new generation of parking meters will be carried out with the expected lifespan of the existing on-street parking meters soon coming to an end. To obtain the latest market information for the better design of new parking meters, a one-month market research exercise will start today to collect views from interested parties.

The market research exercise on the supply, installation, operation and maintenance of the New Parking Meter Trial Scheme will be conducted from today till May 15. Interested parties are invited to express interest and provide information on the system design, operation flow, available payment methods and budgetary cost indications, etc.

A spokesman for the TD added that, considering the rapid development of contactless smartcards and the different technical developments in the market, the trial scheme aims to assess the technical feasibility and public acceptance of the new features and functions to be incorporated in the new generation of parking meters.

The TD has engaged the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) as the consultant for the trial scheme. The TD and the EMSD will plan the New Parking Meter Trial Scheme based on the market information obtained from the research.

Interested parties may visit the TD's website at www.td.gov.hk to obtain a copy of the market research invitation document and contact the EMSD at 3155 4437 for enquiries.
