TD invites applications for Private Driving Instructors' Licences

The Transport Department (TD) today (September 5) announced that eligible persons will be invited to apply for Private Driving Instructor (PDI) Licences. The numbers of licences proposed to be issued are as follows:

(a) 212 Group 1 PDI Licences (private cars and light goods vehicles);
(b) 32 Group 2 PDI Licences (private light buses, public light buses, private buses and public buses); and
(c) 43 Group 3 PDI Licences (medium goods vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and articulated vehicles).

Applications for the three different groups of PDI Licences will be processed separately in two stages:

Group 1 PDI Licences (Stage 1):

Only applications for the Group 1 PDI Licences will be accepted in Stage 1 during the period from September 12 to 26. Application forms can be obtained and submitted during the period.

Group 2 and Group 3 PDI Licences (Stage 2):

Only applications for the Group 2 and Group 3 PDI Licences will be accepted in Stage 2 during the period from October 17 to 31. Application forms can be obtained and submitted during the period.

A TD spokesman reminded applicants that they must submit their applications for the respective PDI Licence groups during the designated application periods or their applications will not be accepted. Any applicants who plan to apply for Group 1 as well as Group 2 and/or Group 3 PDI Licences should obtain and submit the respective application forms separately during the Stage 1 and Stage 2 application periods.

Application forms and guidance notes for applicants for different groups of PDI Licences can be downloaded from the TD website (www.td.gov.hk) or obtained at the following locations during the respective application periods:

* Transport Department Driving Services Section (19 Pui Ching Road, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon);
* Transport Department Hong Kong Licensing Office (3/F, United Centre, 95 Queensway, Hong Kong);
* Transport Department Kowloon Licensing Office (2/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon);
* Transport Department Kwun Tong Licensing Office (5/F, Kowloon East Government Office, 12 Lei Yue Mun Road, Kowloon); and
* Transport Department Sha Tin Licensing Office (2/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin, New Territories)

Applicants can submit their application forms by post to the Transport Department Driving Services Section (address: 19 Pui Ching Road, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon) or put them in the collection box placed at the location during office hours.

The priority of handling the applications will be decided by balloting. The applicants' qualifications will only be verified when their applications are dealt with according to the ballot results. Invitations will be sent to eligible applicants for taking a test while those who fail to meet the qualifications will also be notified in writing.

The spokesman stressed that the priority drawn from the ballot does not represent the applicants' eligibility for the application and the subsequent test.

The test will be terminated when the number of PDI Licences proposed to be issued for the respective group is filled. The applications from those who have not been invited for the test will also be voided.
