Public Should Attend to Traffic Arrangements at Ching Ming Festival

Transport Department advises members of the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on the days near Ching Ming Festival at major cemetery areas of the territory. As a large number of grave-sweepers are expected, the Department urges the public not to go to the cemetery areas on the exact day of Ching Ming Festival Day, to make use of public transport and to follow the instruction of the police.

(A) Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery

The access road leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed to general vehicular traffic between 6.00 am and 6.00 pm daily on March 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 6, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28, 2002 except the emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles taking part in funeral processions and vehicles possessing valid entry permits.

On the above days a KMB Special Route No. 14S will be plying between the bus stop on Lei Yue Mun Road eastbound east of the St. Antonius Girl's School and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery between 7.00 am and 5.30 pm.

Temporary taxi and PLB stands will also be designated at the above days on the southern kerbside of Lei Yue Mun Road westbound opposite to St. Antonius Girl's School between 7:00 am and 5.30 pm.

The road closure of the access road leading to Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be extended to 8.00 pm on April 5 and 7, 2002 (the Ching Ming Festival Day and the Sunday after Ching Ming Festival Day), while the operation of KMB Special Route No. 14S will be suspended. However the temporary taxi and PLB stands will continue to operate.

(B) Wo Hop Shek Cemetery

The following sections of roads will be closed to general vehicles from 4.00 am to 7.00 pm on March 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 5, 6, 7, 14, 2002 except emergency vehicles and those specified:

* Kiu Tau Road except hearses;

* Ming Yin Road except franchised buses;

* Wo Ka Lau Road; and

* the flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West except taxis, coaches, school buses, private cars, goods vehicles and motor cycles.

On the above days, stopping or waiting for picking up or setting down passengers or loading or unloading goods are not allowed between 7.00 am and 12.00 midnight at Wo Hing Road, Lui Ming Road, Wai Ming Street, Pak Wo Road, Wah Ming Road, Yat Ming Road, Wo Ming Lane, Fai Ming Road, Wah Ming Lane, Yan Shing Lane and Tai Wo Service Road West between Wo Hing Road and a point about 300 metres south of its junction with Kiu Tau Road, except franchised buses, emergency vehicles and vehicles with permits issued by the Commissioner for Transport.

During the period of Ching Ming Festival, KMB will operate route 76S, 70S and 74S to provide transports to Wo Hop Shek from Fanling KCR Station, Jordan Road Ferry Bus Terminus and Lam Tin MTR Station respectively. Services of KMB Route 70X, 76K, 270A, 273, 276A, 276P and 278X will be strengthened if required.

(C) Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area

Sandy Ridge will be open to grave-sweepers between 6.00 am to 6.00 pm daily from March 23 to April 14, 2002. However, vehicles will not be allowed to gain access to Sandy Ridge except those with Frontier Closed Road Permits.

Grave-sweepers can take KMB Route 73K and GMB Route No. 59K at Sheung Shui or the train service to Lo Wu in order to go to Sandy Ridge. The service of KMB 73K will be strengthened as necessary during the period.

(D) Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery

The sections of road in the vicinity of Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery, including Cape Collinson Road east of Lin Shing Road, the slip-road leading from Cape Collinson Road to Garden of Remembrance and Crematorium, the slip-road leading to Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery and Wan Tsui Lane will be closed to vehicular traffic between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm on April 5, 2002. If the police consider it necessary, the above closure will also be implemented periodically on March 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 and April 1, 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28, 2002.

On March 29, 30, 31 and April 1 and 7, 2002, NWFB will provide route 388 plying between Chai Wan MTR Bus Terminus and Chai Wan Cemetery (circular), and route 389 plying between Shau Kei Wan Bus Terminus and Chai Wan Cemetery (circular).

CTB routes 8X, 314, 780, NWFB routes 8, 8P, 9, 14, 82, 309 and Cross Harbour bus routes 106, 118, 606, 682 and 694 will be strengthened subject to demand.
