Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works in Western District from next Thursday

The Transport Department (TD) today (February 5) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal work in Western District will be implemented from 9am next Thursday (February 11) to 4pm on February 19.

The temporary traffic arrangements will mainly include:

* The offside lane of Ka On Street from a point about 10 metres north of its junction with Des Voeux Road West to a point about 25m north of the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic;

* The offside lane of Des Voeux Road West eastbound from a point about 30m west of its junction with Ka On Street to a point about 25m east of the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic (except trams);

* The offside lane of Des Voeux Road West westbound from a point about 90m east of its junction with Whitty Street to a point about 130m east of the same junction will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic (except trams);

* Vehicles exceeding 8m in length will be temporarily prohibited from making a left turn from Ka On Street onto Des Voeux Road West eastbound;

* Vehicles exceeding 8m in length on Connaught Road West westbound heading for Des Voeux Road West eastbound via Ka On Street will be diverted via U-turn underneath Hill Road flyover and Des Voeux Road West eastbound;

* Vehicles exceeding 8m in length on Shing Sai Road eastbound heading for Des Voeux Road West eastbound via Ka On Street will be diverted via Sai Cheung Street North southbound, Kennedy Town Praya eastbound and Des Voeux Road West eastbound; and

* Vehicles exceeding 8m in length on Fung Mat Road southbound heading for Des Voeux Road West eastbound will be diverted via Connaught Road West westbound, Shing Sai Road westbound, Sai Cheung Street North southbound, Kennedy Town Praya eastbound and Des Voeux Road West eastbound.

The temporary transport arrangements will mainly include:

* Citybus (CTB) route A12 and cross-harbour route 905 will be diverted via Connaught Road West westbound, U-turn underneath Hill Road flyover and Des Voeux Road West eastbound before resuming original routeing during the above period;

* The bus stops of cross-harbour routes 101, 101X, 104, 113, 904 and 905; CTB routes A10 and A12; and New World First Bus (NWFB) route 971 on Des Voeux Road West eastbound outside Kwan Yick Building Phase II will be temporarily relocated about 35m eastward; and

* The bus stops of CTB routes 1, 5B, 5X and 10 and NWFB routes 18P and 18X on Des Voeux Road West eastbound near Fung Yip Building will be temporarily relocated about 35m westward.

Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on-site to guide motorists. The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers on the above public transport arrangements.

The TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Des Voeux Road West will be congested. Members of the public are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
