New arrangements for taxi advertisements take effect

A series of new advertising display arrangements for taxis was announced today (April 4) as part of the Transport Department's on-going programme to improve the operating environment of taxis..

The new arrangements include installation of LED display panels on the roof-top of taxis, display of advertisements along the whole side of taxis, and on the upper end of the rear windscreen of taxis.

Unveiling a taxi with display of advertisement at a ceremony at Kowloon Bay Vehicle Examination Centre, the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Robert Footman, said: "The new arrangement is also one of the measures of the Department to help boost income of taxi operators, enhance the competitiveness of taxis and make taxis in Hong Kong more visually attractive.

"I believe the above new arrangements will help open up more advertising business opportunities for taxis and boost the advertising revenue of taxi owners and drivers.

The advantages of the new arrangements are:

* They have more room for innovative and attractive advertisements.
* The LED installation allows continuous advertisements of different products.
* The LED installation can provide real time information about weather conditions, traffic situation and even the World Cup news.

"With the dedication of the taxi trade I believe both the taxi services and the competitiveness of taxis will be much enhanced," he said.

The ceremony was joined by Assistant Commissioner for Transport, Mr Peter Luk, and representatives of the taxi trade.
