More streets in Sham Shui Po to be pedestrianised

The Transport Department (TD) today (May 15) announces that two sections of roads in Sham Shui Po will be closed to traffic daily from 12 noon to 9 pm from Friday (May 17) when a new trial pedestrian scheme starts.

A TD spokesman said: "The scheme aims to promote walking and to improve pedestrian safety in the district."

The part-time pedestrian scheme include:

* the section of Apliu Street between Yen Chow Street and Kweilin Street; and
* the section of Kweilin Street between Yu Chau Street and Apliu Street.

During the pedestrian period, motorists on Yen Chow Street southbound heading for Yu Chau Street westbound are advised to travel via Ki Lung Street and Pei Ho Street.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian scheme at Fuk Wa Street, Apliu Street and Pei Ho Street introduced since October 2001 will become a permanent one on May 17 following a period of successful trial. The following road sections will be closed from 12 noon to 9 pm daily under the scheme.

* the section of Fuk Wa Street between Kweilin Street and Nam Cheong Street;
* the section of Apliu Street between Kweilin Street and Nam Cheong Street;
