Transcript of remarks by Commissioner for Transport

     Following is the transcript of remarks at a media session by the Commissioner for Transport, Ms Mable Chan, after attending the special meeting of the Panel on Transport of the Legislative Council (LegCo) today (February 15):
 
Reporter: Are you aware that KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited) manipulated the number of part-time drivers since the number dropped from 1 000 to now 300 to 400? And how would you make sure after KMB suspended the duties of part-time drivers, it won't affect the exiting service?
 
Commissioner for Transport: From the government perspective, our ultimate importance is to ensure the proper and efficient service to be provided by the franchised buses. So in this context, we are informed by the Kowloon Motor Bus about their deployment of full-time and part-time bus captains. We will make sure that in deploying (bus captains) and in meeting the demand of passengers of franchised buses, the service will not be affected and we will take into account the sentiment of the community in devising the shift deployment arrangements.
 
Reporter: What about the discrepancy in the number?
 
Commissioner for Transport: I understand that the bus company will provide the relevant information to the LegCo Transport Panel after the meeting.
