Two more bus stops at Central to be rationalised

The Transport Department announces that two bus stops on Connaught Road Central eastbound serving a total of 47 bus routes will be rationalized this Sunday (October 10) to help smooth traffic in Central.

With the new arrangement, bus route nos. 6, 6A, 6X, 12, 15, 61, 64, 66, 88, 260, 262, and 693 will no longer pick up or drop off passengers at the bus stop outside Jardine House while the bus stop outside City Hall will not serve route nos. 13, 262, 905, 914, 930, 934, 935, 948, 960, 961, 962, 968, and 969.

Giving details of the bus stop rationalisation scheme today (Friday), a Transport Department spokesman said the number of bus routes using the above two bus stops would decrease from 37 and 47 to 25 and 34 respectively.

"It is estimated that the scheme will result in a total reduction of 110 bus stoppings in a peak hour," added the spokesman.

"As part of the on-going rationalisation scheme, the above arrangement is carried out in connection with the widening of the bus bay outside City Hall at Connaught Road Central eastbound to further alleviate traffic congestion."

"Notices will be put up at the bus stops and inside the buses concerned to guide passengers. The department will monitor the traffic condition closely," said the spokesman.

A series of bus stop rationalisation measures have been implemented at various districts in Hong Kong since 1998.
