New Traffic Arrangement for Improvements to Lok Ma Chau Crossing

The works for Improvements to Lok Ma Chau Crossing are in progress and scheduled to be completed in mid-2003. To cater for traffic in the cross-boundary goods delivery peak period during August and September, the previous phase of vehicle kiosk renovation works have been completed on 31 July, 2002.

Commencing from 7am on 1 August, all 12 vehicle kiosk lanes in each direction will be opened to traffic. Of these lanes, one kiosk lane in each direction near the Control Point Terminal Building will continue to be temporarily used by coaches.

After the goods delivery peak period, the next phase of outbound vehicle kiosk renovation works will start on 1 October, 2002. By then, 10 outbound kiosk lanes will be opened in the Control Point.

As the inbound vehicle kiosks no longer require renovation, 12 inbound lanes will continually be opened after the goods delivery peak period.

Also, the widening of the southbound carriageway of the Lok Ma Chau / Huanggang Bridge (HKSAR section) has been completed. This carriageway has been widened from two to three lanes, the inner two lanes being reserved for goods vehicles, the outer lane for passenger vehicles. The new carriageway will be opened to traffic at 7am on 1 August, 2002.

Motorists are asked to pay attention to traffic signs erected within the Control Point and on the Lok Ma Chau Bridge, and to comply with directions of staff thereat and the Police.
