Tunnel operators ready for Y2K

Members of the Y2K Steering Committee of the Transport Department have been given assurance by the management companies of the Western Harbour Crossing and Route 3 (Country Park Section) that their critical systems had achieved Y2K compliance.

At separate briefings held with the company representatives today (Thursday), members learnt that these two companies had been well prepared for the rollover with their operational and control systems rectified and contingency plans worked out.

The companies have reserved extra manpower to monitor the provision of services and the implementation of contingency plans during the rollover.

The Steering Committee, led by the Commissioner of Transport, Mr Robert Footman, is monitoring the progress of Y2K compliance and contingence plans of the transport sector. Several briefings by bus operators and railway corporations have been held, and members will meet with car park and ferry operators shortly to help ensure a smooth transition of the transport sector in the rollover to the new millennium.
