Introduction of "One-stop-shop" vehicle type approval service

The Transport Department (TD) today (April 1) announced that a trial scheme of the "One-stop-shop" mechanism is introduced to streamline the application for vehicle type approval for private cars, light buses and buses and goods vehicles with effect from today (April 1).

A TD spokesman said: "The objective of the "one-stop-shop" approach is to facilitate motor vehicle authorized dealers in vehicle type approval application. Under the "one-stop-shop" arrangement, a single point of contact for submission and a set of integrated application document that combined and streamlined the existing 3 sets of application documents will be adopted."

Before, motor vehicle authorised dealers of the Motor Traders Association of Hong Kong were required to submit three sets of application documents separately to Transport Department, Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).

From April 1 onwards, the motor vehicle authorised dealers simply need to complete one set of application document and submit it to TD's Type Approval Unit only at Room 3402, 34/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai. Upon receipt of the application, TD will coordinate with EPD and EMSD for processing of the application.

He said: "A review will be conducted after the trial ends on June 1."

Application forms and relevant guidelines can be downloaded from TD's website (www.info.gov.hk/td).

Enquiries can be made to Transport Department at 2829 5467 or 28295843.
