Stargazers urged to use public transport

The Transport Department today (Friday) urges all stargazers who intend to catch a glimpse of the Leonid meteor shower this Sunday (November 14) to make use of public transport instead of driving to the popular viewing points.

A spokesman for the department said that traffic would be heavier than usual after Sunday midnight at the vicinity of those good viewing points such as beaches at Shek O and Sai Kung.

"Car parks at those sites are limited, " said the spokesman.

"Depending on the actual passenger demand, bus services will be strengthened and additional trips will be provided whenever necessary," added the spokesman.

"The Transport Department will monitor closely the traffic situation and maintain close liaison with public transport operators to make sure that public transport arrangements will be provided when required."
