TD monitors operation of Ma On Shan Rail after long holidays

Transport Department (TD) has activated the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre (ETCC) to monitor the transport and traffic conditions and to maintain close liaison with KCRC and the bus companies, on the first school day after Christmas and New Year holidays (January 3).

A TD spokesman said: "The department has also deployed officers at the strategic locations to observe the traffic and passenger flow during peak period. TD maintains close liaison with the transport operators to ensure smooth operation of the Rail."

ETCC was notified at about 11.45am about a signal failure of MOSR, which had affected service between Tai Wai and Wu Kai Sha Stations. The ETCC immediately notified the bus companies for necessary precautions, and issued announcements to TV/radio stations to inform public of the latest situations. Service was resumed normal at 12.34 pm.

The spokesman added that as today was the start of normal schooling and working day, TD would monitor the passenger trend closely for another week or two, before deciding the programme for implementation of the public transport plan in the district.

"The plan aims at better coordinating various modes in response to the changes in travel pattern," he noted.
