Transport carnival to promote road safety

The Transport Department will hold a "Transport Day" carnival at Victoria Park this Sunday (December 5, 1999) to enhance public awareness of road safety and to widen people's knowledge of today's transport.

"Activities to be held at the carnival including games and exhibition were carefully designed with a view to convey the message of road safety," a spokesman for the department said.

"By playing the games or watching various types of vehicles to be exhibited in the carnival, people will get to know how environmental friendly and IT oriented today's transport has become," added the spokesman.

The "Transport Day" carnival organised by the Transport Department and transport related organisations will be held at the football pitches of Victoria Park from 10 am to 5 pm with an opening ceremony to be officiated at 2 pm by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Robert Footman; Chairman of the Transport Advisory Committee, Dr Cheng Hon-kwan; and Chairman of Road Safety Council, Mr Peter Wong.

Admission is free and all are welcome to join the Carnival.
