TD welcomes more BBI schemes

Transport Department (TD) today (August 14) welcomes bus-bus-interchange (BBI) schemes announced by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB).

Speaking on BBI schemes, a TD spokesman said together with the schemes announced by KMB today, a total of 73 BBI schemes from the various bus companies have been approved this year. Another 20 schemes have been agreed subject to consultation with other parties such as District Councils.

As at today, 52 BBI schemes involving more than 200 bus routes have been in operation.

BBI schemes (73 approved schemes and another 20 schemes subject to consultation) will offer passengers fare discounts in the range of $1.0 to $20.70.

"We welcome applications from the bus companies to develop more BBI schemes, and TD has been encouraging the bus companies to introduce more BBI schemes. BBI applications will continue to be processed promptly by the Department," added the spokesman.

When all the 73 new schemes are implemented, there will be a total of 125 BBI schemes in operation to benefit the bus passengers.

In addition to offering passengers fare discounts which reduce travel expenses, BBI schemes also improve the coverage of the bus network enabling passengers to travel to more destinations without introducing new long haul routes. This will help reduce congestion and air pollution caused by heavy traffic in the busy districts.
