TD launches Cheung Chau ferry pier LED display panels

Two Light Emitting Diode (LED) passenger information display panels are installed at the Cheung Chau Ferry Pier to show real time information to ferry passengers.

Officiating at the launching ceremony today (August 9), the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Robert Footman, said that striving for the best public transport service was always the Transport Department's promise to all public transport users. The objective of the Department was to provide the public with quality passenger information with the application of advanced technologies, which was also the main theme of the launching ceremony of the LED passenger information display panels.

The display panels, located at the roof of the Cheung Chau ferry pier, will show ferry schedule arrangement, update notices, weather conditions and more importantly, the special ferry arrangement during inclement weather conditions, special events, as well as the emergency notice during special incidents.

"With the installation of the LED display panels, I believe this will bring Cheung Chau ferry passengers a more efficient and reliable information in the most convenient way," Mr Footman added.

Mr Footman said that building on this project, we would install more display panels in Mui Wo, Peng Chau, Yung Shue Wan and Central by early next year.

Also officiating at the launching ceremony held at Praya Street in Cheung Chau are the Chairman of Islands District Council, Mr Lam Wai Keung; Islands District Officer, Mr Patrick Chan; and the Managing Director of New World First Ferry Services Limited, Mr Adolf Hsu.
