MTR Yau Tong station launches smoothly in general

Traffic condition in the vicinity of the newly commissioned Yau Tong Station of MTR Tseung Kwan O Line (TKOL) was in good order and service level of public transport was satisfactory today (August 4).

The Transport Department (TD) today activated the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre (ETCC) to monitor traffic and public transport services upon the opening of Yau Tong Station.

At TD Headquarters, while observing traffic condition in the vicinity of Yau Tong Station, officers kept close liaison with bus companies, green mini-bus (GMB) operators and Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited (MTRCL) for first hand information on service adequacy and passenger flow.

The department also deployed officers at strategic locations to observe if there were smooth traffic and pedestrian flow. Those observers made regular reports to ETCC so that the centre could keep abreast of the latest situations.

TD will continue to activate ETCC tomorrow (August 5) to closely monitor the traffic and public transport services on the first working day after the opening of Yau Tong Station.

MTRCL opened Yau Tong Station today to allow cross-harbour passengers to and from eastern Kowloon to get familiar with the cross platform interchange at Yau Tong. Its TKOL will commission on August 18 to serve the Tseung Kwan O and Yau Tong areas.
