Cross-boundary transport arrangements during the Millennium Rollover

The Transport Department announces that special cross-boundary transport and traffic arrangements will be implemented on 31 December 1999. Passengers and motorists who intend to cross the boundary should set out as early as possible to avoid last minute rush.

"As agreed between the HKSAR and Shenzhen governments, the two overnight goods vehicle inspection channels at Lok Ma Chau Control Point will be closed between 10 pm on 31 December 1999 and 7 am on 1 January 2000," said a spokesman of the department.

The immigration counters at the Lo Wu Control Point in Shenzhen will be closed at 11.30 pm sharp on December 31 and there will be no service extension thereafter on that day.

To allow sufficient time for immigration clearance by the Hong Kong Immigration Department and the Shenzhen Frontier Inspection Station, the Lo Wu train service for cross-boundary passengers will be curtailed on 31 December with the last Lo Wu bound train departing from Hung Hom and Sheung Shui at 10.19 pm and 10.54 pm respectively.

"As for local inhabitants and staff working at the Lo Wu Control Point, the last train heading for Lo Wu will leave Hung Hom at 11.54 pm while the last departure from Lo Wu for the Hung Hom bound train will be at 00.20 am on 1 January 2000," said the spokesman.

The spokesman also reminded that those passengers on board the Lo Wu trains which are intended for local inhabitants and staff in Lo Wu will not be allowed to cross the boundary upon arrival at Lo Wu Station.

"The opening hours of the Man Kam To and the Sha Tau Kok Control Points will remain unchanged during the Millennium Rollover Period. They will be closed as usual at 10 pm and 8 pm respectively on 31 December 1999."

The Transport Department will monitor the cross-boundary traffic closely during the rollover, added the spokesman.
