The Transport Department announces that as part of the territory-wide precautionary measure during the Y2K critical day on December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000, the Department will activate the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre (ETCC) from 8 pm on December 31, 1999 .

Depending on circumstances, the centre will stand down at 12 noon on January 1, 2000 and reactivate from 4 am to 12 noon on January 3, 2000.

The ETCC will be headed by a Deputy Commissioner and manned by dedicated teams of some 120 Transport Department staff. All major public transport and all tunnel operators will also participate with some of them stationing at the ETCC to enhance communication and co-operation.

They will closely monitor the performance of all critical computer systems of their operations and maintain close contact with the ETCC during the transition period to ensure a continuous provision of satisfactory transport service and a smooth and orderly transition during the roll over.
