Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for Flag Raising Ceremony and National Day Fireworks Display

To facilitate the Flag Raising Ceremony and National Day fireworks display to be held on October 1, 2002. The Transport Department will implement special traffic and transport measures. Public transport services will also have special arrangements.

Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central and Expo Drive East will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except authorized vehicles from 6.45 am to 10.00 am on October 1, 2002.

The taxi stand, the coach metered parking spaces and the bus terminus on Expo Drive East will be suspended from 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight on October 1, 2002. Affected bus terminus will be relocated. The taxi stand and general loading/unloading bays at Wan Chai Ferry Pier Public Transport Interchange will be suspended from 6.45 am to 12.00 midnight on October 1, 2002.

On Hong Kong Island, temporary road closure will be implemented starting 8.00 pm at Peak area, Central, Wan Chai north and Wan Chai south. The affected roads will be re-opened until the situations are considered safe by the Police.

In Kowloon, some road sections of Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan will implement road closure and traffic diversions in five phases from 5.00 pm.

MTR train service will be strengthened between 7.00 pm and 11.30 pm as follows:

Headway

1. Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line and Kwun Tong Line 3 minutes

2. Between Hong Kong and Tsing Yi on Tung Chung Line 5 minutes

KCRC train services between Hung Hom and Sheung Shui will be strengthened from headway of an average of 5 minutes to 3.5 minutes from 9.30 pm to 11.00 pm.

Normal Sunday service will be operated by Light Rail Train.

Normal public holiday services will be operated by Hong Kong Trams Service.

Peak Tram Services will be adjusted subject to demand.

The service of Central to Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System on October 1, 2002 will be extended to 1.00 am on the following morning.

Suspension and relocation of bus termini/stops, suspension of bus service, special bus service, extension of operating hours, route diversion and enhancement of service will be implemented by bus companies.

Suspension and relocation of stands and route diversion will be implemented by public light bus (scheduled) companies.

Ferry companies will suspend some ferry services and cancel sailings as well as strengthen and alter some sailings.
