Closed road permit notices no longer required

Transport Department (TD) today (January 9) announces that Closed Road Permit Notices (CRPN) will be dispensed with and will be stopped issuing with effect from January 17.

From January 17 onwards, drivers of cross-boundary vehicles will no longer be required to show their CRPN upon crossing the boundary crossing points at Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok.

A spokesman for the department said: " Dispensing with CRPN will help reduce cross-boundary clearance time for vehicles, thus improving traffic flow at boundary crossings.

It will also streamline application procedures for Closed Road Permits (CRP) and result in savings of about $700,000 per year."

At present, Cross-boundary vehicles and drivers of these vehicles are required to show their CRP and CRPN respectively when entering the closed roads within boundary restricted areas. Under the new arrangement, vehicles on boundary trips are still required to obtain the valid CRP.

"For CRP issued before January 17, the condition on the CRP relating to the CRPN is deemed to have been removed on January 17," he said.
