Contract for Telecommunication Services for Tai Po and North District ATC System signed

Transport Department today (November 19) signed a $13.9 million contract with PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited for the provision and lease of telecommunication circuits for the operation of the Area Traffic Control (ATC) system for Tai Po and North District.

Under the Contract, the contractor shall be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning, and subsequent 5-years lease of telecommunication circuits for the operation of the ATC system for Tai Po and North District. The Contract will commence on Friday (November 22) for a construction period of 10 months. The consultant for the design and works supervision of this Contract is Hyder Maunsell Joint Venture.

Upon completion of the Contract, private leased circuits will be provided for linking (i) the central computer of the ATC system installed at the Traffic Control Centre, the regional control computer installed at Tai Po and the 122 traffic signal controllers at Tai Po and North District, and (ii) the Traffic Control Centre and other ATC remote workstations. The leased circuits will provide direct communication for the control and the operation of the ATC system, which will be commissioned in 2004 to help improving the efficiency of our road network in Tai Po and North District.
