Traffic diversion at Lok Ma Chau Crossing

The Transport Department reminded cross boundary vehicle drivers to note the traffic diversion at Lok Ma Chau Control Point which will take effect from 7 am on February 5.

The diversion is necessary to facilitate the construction of new buildings for examination of cargos.

A spokesman for the Department said the construction project was part of the works of Improvements to Lok Ma Chau Crossing Phase 2 which has commenced since November 2000. Cargo process time would be reduced and traffic condition of goods vehicles would be improved when the project was completed in Autumn 2003.

As the buildings will be constructed in front of the entrance gates on San Sham Road, traffic diversion has to be implemented to release the portion of the road to facilitate construction.

The capacity of the northbound and southbound Goods Vehicle Holding Areas will be reduced by about one-fifth and one-sixth respectively during the construction period.

Modification of the existing road markings, paving of temporary roads and installation of road barriers are being carried out at both Holding Areas.

Motorists are advised to pay attention to temporary traffic signs erected along San Sham Road and in the holding area. They should also observe the instructions given by the Police.
