Licence for Ferry Service between Tuen Mun and Chek Lap Kok Awarded

The Transport Department (TD) today (June 14) announced that licence for the ferry service between Tuen Mun and Chek Lap Kok has been awarded to the New World First Ferry Services Ltd. (NWFF), which will provide more frequent service at existing fares.

The new service will be in operation on June 30, 2001 immediately upon the withdrawal of the service currently operated by the Airport Ferry Services Ltd. (AFSL).

A TD spokesman said: "The department has received two tender bids for the above ferry service at the close of the tender.

"A Tender Assessment Committee chaired by an Assistant Commissioner for Transport with representatives from TD, Marine Department, Civil Engineering Department and Home Affairs Department has selected the tender bid from NWFF having considered factors including service level, fare, ferry and pier facilities provided and corporate capability of the two bids."

He added that a gearing-up committee was set up to work up details in relation to the transition of the ferry service from the AFSL to NWFF.

"TD's emergency transport coordination centre will be activated on the night of June 29 to oversee the actual takeover of the service on June 30 and closely monitor the situation," he said.
