Leave home earlier for cross-boundary journeys

Passengers who intend to take the Lok Ma Chau-Huanggang cross-boundary shuttle bus during the Lunar New Year holidays should plan their journeys earlier to avoid last minute rush.

Speaking on the shuttle service today (Wednesday), a spokesman for the Transport Department said: "It is envisaged that the number of passengers will increase significantly during the above period.

"The peak demand is usually in the evenings.

"Past experiences showed that passengers who rush for the last few departures in late evenings may not be able to board the buses successfully."

The spokesman advised passengers to make their journeys during less busy hours in the morning and early afternoon.

"This will help avoid over-crowding at the terminus and facilitate effective regulation of services to meet passengers' demand," he added.

The cross-boundary shuttle bus service between Lok Ma Chau and Huanggang operates between 7.30 am and 9.30 pm. The frequency of the service will be enhanced when necessary.

However, the operating hours will remain as usual and will not be extended.

"Notices will be displayed at Sheung Shui and Yuen Long bus termini to advise passengers to make use of other cross-boundary transport services as appropriate if there are too many people at the shuttle bus terminus," the spokesman said.
