TD received 40,000 applications in two days

The Licensing Offices of the Transport Department received nearly 40,000 applications for licence renewal over the past two days (March 6 and 7)

Of the applications received, 25,800 applications were handled at the counter and 13,570 were received through the drop box.

A Transport Department spokesman said of the four Licensing Offices, Admiralty and Mong Kok offices received and handled more than 80 per cent of the total applications.

In view of the long queues, applicants had been encouraged to use the drop boxes. Some 70 additional staff were deployed to help speed up the processing time at the counters by checking the documents and render assistance to the applicants in the queue.

The spokesman noted that there were significant increases in the number of applications sent in through the drop boxes in the past two days.

The average number of applications received through the drop box is 100 on a normal day. On Tuesday alone, the figure increased to 12,000.

"Drop box is a convenient way for members of the public to renew their licences and they are always encouraged to make use of it," the spokesman said.
