Parking Meter Replacement Scheme to be completed by November 21

The Parking Meter Replacement Scheme will be completed by Sunday, November 21, 2004. The Transport Department said that by then all roadside metered parking spaces in Hong Kong would be installed with Octopus parking meters.

In line with the cancellation of the e-Park card parking meters, on the same date, payment by e-Park cards will no longer be accepted at the Transport Department's 13 multi-storey car parks. In addition, selling of e-Park cards will stop at the existing sales outlets.

Motorists with e-Park cards can continue to receive refunds for the remaining value on their cards at the 23 e-Park card refund outlets (see Appendix). From now on until November 20, 2004, applications for refunds for e-Park cards with a remaining balance of $80 or less will be settled by cash on site at refund centres. Where the remaining balance exceeds $80, the refund amount will be made by crossed cheque and mailed to the applicant within 21 working days. With effect from November 21, 2004, each refund application for e-Park cards with the amount of $1,000 or less will be settled by cash on site at refund centres. If the refund amount for an application exceeds $1,000, it will be made by crossed cheque and mailed to the applicant. The arrangement will continue until November 20, 2005.

On the other hand, the "Support the Community Chest with your e-Park card" campaign will continue until December 31, 2004. Motorists can choose to donate the remaining value of their e-Park cards to the Community Chest by putting your e-Park cards into the collection boxes at the 23 e-Park card refund outlets or any Shell petroleum filling station.
