Vehicle and driving Licence fees increase

The Financial Secretary has announced, in the Budget Speech delivered this afternoon (March 7), a 10 per cent increase in driving licence fees and the licence fees of private cars and motor cycles/tricycles. The levy for the Traffic Accident Victims Assistance Fund, collected together with the licence fees, remains unchanged.

The increases took effect from 2.30 pm today, with the exception of the following licence renewals where the old rates will continue to apply up to and including July 6, 2001 -

* Licences of registered private cars and motor cycles/tricycles with expiry dates falling on or before July 6, 2001 can be renewed at the old rate, whether for four months or 12 months, at any time up to and including July 6, 2001.
* Full Hong Kong driving licences with expiry dates falling on or before July 6, 2001, which have expired for less than three years at the time of renewal, can be renewed at the old rate at any time up to and including July 6, 2001.
