Special arrangements for roads serving Tseung Kwun O Cemetery

The access road leading to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed temporarily starting this Saturday (March 3), and a special bus route (no. 14S) will be introduced. The Transport Department appeals to members of the public to make use of the public transport to reach the cemetery.

The access road will be closed to vehicles between 6 am and 8 pm daily on March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and April 1, 5, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2001 except emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles taking part in funeral processions and vehicles possessing valid entry permits.

A spokesman for the Department said that traffic around the Cemetery would be very busy and the public should avoid driving their vehicles there as the parking spaces nearby would be very limited.

KMB Route 14S will be operating between the bus stop on Lei Yue Mun Road eastbound east of the St. Antonius Girl's School and Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery from 7 am to 5.30 pm during the road closure period on the above mentioned dates except on April 1 and 5, 2001.

On the reason why no bus service will be provided on April 1 and 4, the spokesman said as the Cemetery would be extremely crowded on Ching Ming Festival and the Sunday before, the banning of vehicle from entering the area would be necessary to ensure road safety.

"Temporary taxi and PLB stands will be designated on the southern kerbside of Lei Yue Mun Road westbound opposite to St. Antonius Girl's School between 7.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on March 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, 2001 and April 1, 5, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2001," added the spokesman.

"We will be closely monitoring the traffic situation in the area and adjustments will be made when they are required."
