Clearways lifted on holidays to give motorists convenience

Vehicle stopping restrictions at road sections in various parts of Hong Kong have been identified for relaxation on Sundays and public holidays to give road users more convenience.

The eight-month clearway relaxation programme, which is being implemented in stages since March this year, covers 76 locations.

Of these locations, 14 are on Hong Kong Island, 18 in Kowloon and 44 in the New Territories. So far, the relaxation of clearway restriction on holidays has been implemented at 14 locations.

Road sections like Connaught Road Central, Robinson Road, Caine Road, Conduit Road, Electric Road, Chatham Road South, Mody Road, Jordan Road, Austin Road, Ting Kok Road, Tai Lin Pai Road and Yeung Uk Road are included in the programme.

A spokesman for the Transport Department said the road sections involved were chosen after careful examination of the existing traffic flow and condition.

He said: "The relaxation is for the convenience of road users while maintaining smooth traffic and safety on roads.

Meanwhile, four restricted zones have been opened for taxis since January this year to facilitate passengers as part of the Department's on-going efforts in brushing up taxi services.

The four zones are located at Siu Sai Wan Road, Pedder Street, Connaught Road Central and Chuk Wan Street.

One more will be introduced at San Fung Avenue in Sheung Shui later this year.

The department will keep a close watch on the traffic condition after the implementation of the relaxation scheme and make adjustments whenever necessary.

"We will also continue to examine the possibility and viability of extending similar relaxation to other suitable zones to provide more convenience to road users," he added.
