Application for Tung Chung Road Permits extended

The Transport Department reminded parties eligible for Tung Chung Road Prohibited Zone Permits that the application period for a new batch of 50 Permits to be allocated by ballot has been extended to April 18, 2001.

A spokesman for the Department said that the issue of permits was to cater for the needs of Lantau (except Tung Chung New Town and Discovery Bay) residents.

Only Lantau residents or Lantau-based commercial undertakings and institutions in possession of the following items can apply for the Permits:

* either valid Lantau Closed Road permit as at the closing date of application; or
* approval letter issued by Transport Department for obtaining Lantau Closed Road permit. The approval must be valid as at the closing date of application.

Applicants should pay attention to the following requirements:

* Applications from holders of current long-term Tung Chung Road prohibited zone permit (TCRPZP) will not be accepted.
* Persons with temporary TCRPZP may apply but they MUST surrender their temporary permits upon allocation of TCRPZP permits from the ballot.
* Each applicant should only submit one application.
* Only one application from the same address will be processed.
* The vehicle of applicants must be private car, motor cycle, or goods vehicle with gross vehicle weight of 5.5 tonnes or below, and the registered owner of the vehicle must be the applicant.

The permits will be applicable from Mondays to Fridays and Saturday mornings up to 12.00 noon only. The permits will be valid for 12 months from the date on which they are issued. Permit holders can apply to the Transport Department for renewal when the permit expires.

Applicants may obtain relevant application forms from the following government offices -

* Hong Kong Licensing Office, Transport Department at 3/F., United Centre, Queensway.
* New Territories Regional Office, Transport Department at 7/F., Mongkok Government Offices, Mongkok.
* Islands District Office, 20/F., Harbour Building, Central.
* Mui Wo Sub-office of Islands District Office, Ground and 2nd Floor, Mui Wo Government Offices, Mui Wo.

Applicants may also download the application forms from the website at http://www.info.gov.hk.

Applications forms should be duly completed and accompanied by copy of either the valid Lantau closed road permit or approval letter issued by Transport Department for obtaining Lantau closed road permit.

Applications must be marked with "Balloting - Tung Chung Road Permit" on the envelope and submitted by post (preferably by registered post) or by hand only to the Senior Transport Officer (Islands) of the Transport Operations (NT) Division, Transport Department at 7/F, Mongkok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street, Mongkok, Kowloon on or before April 18.
