Temporary Restricted Zones Designated to Facilitate Works

The Transport Department will from May 4 to May 8, 2001 designate a number of restricted zones to facilitate various types of works.

The relevant notices were published in the Government Gazette today (May 4).

The following sections will be designated restricted zones with effect from 10 am on May 4:

* the southern kerbside lane of Fung Tak Road (excluding the lay-by) from a point about 18 metres west of its junction with Sheung Yuen Street to a point about 68 metres west of the same junction from 7 am to 7 pm daily;
* the southern kerbside lane of Wo Muk Road from its junction with Luen Hing Street to a point about 60 metres east of the same junction will be designated a goods vehicle restricted zone from 7 am to 12 midnight daily;
* the southern kerbside lane of Wo Muk Road from a point about 55 metres east of its junction with Luen Hing Street to a point about 160 metres east of the same junction from 7 am to 12 midnight daily.

The following sections will be designated restricted zones 24 hours daily with effect from 10 am on May 7:

* the section of Heard Street from its junction with Cross Lane to a point about five metres north of the same junction;
* the section of Cross Lane from its junction with Heard Street to a point 15 metres west of the same junction;
* the section of Wood Road from its junction with Wing Cheung Street to a point about 15 metres west of the same junction; and
* the section of Wing Cheung Street from its junction with Wood Road to a point about 10 metres south of the same junction.

With effect from 10 am on May 7, the northern kerbside lane of Lockhart Road from a point about 20 metres west of its junction with O'brien Road to a point about 30 metres east of the same junction will be designated a temporary restricted zone 24 hours daily for a period of about 10 months.

The section of Ship Street between Johnston Road and Queen's Road East will be designated a temporary prohibited zone for all vehicles exceeding seven metres in length 24 hours daily for a period of about two months with effect from 10 am on May 8.

Besides, the following road sections will be designated temporary restricted zones 24 hours daily for a period of about two months with effect from 10 am on May 8:

* the southern kerbside lane of Queen's Road East from a point about 35 metres west of its junction with Ship Street to a point about 50 metres east of the same junction;
* the northern kerbside lane of Queen's Road East between Lun Fat Street and Tai Wong Street East; and
* the section of Ship Street from its junction with Queen's Road East to a point about 20 metres north of the same junction.

Drivers of all motor vehicles, except franchised buses and those with permits issued by the Commissioner for Transport, will be prohibited from picking up or setting down passengers, or loading or unloading goods within the restricted zones. Only those vehicles with permits issued by the Commissioner will be allowed to pick up or set down passengers, or to load or unload goods within the goods vehicle restricted zone and the temporary prohibited zone for vehicles exceeding seven metres in length.

The extent of the restricted zones will be indicated by appropriate traffic signs and road markings. Moreover, the existing restricted zones of the affected area, if any, will be temporarily rescinded.
