Public service guidebook for the disabled published

The newly published third edition of A Guide to Public Transport for People with Disabilities is obtainable free of charge at various locations starting from today (April 3).

The Guide offers comprehensive information about the facilities for the disabled in the public transport, the Rehabus services, and the contacts of the public transport operators.

"The Guide is one of the efforts the government has made to help the disabled in planning their journeys on the public transport," said a spokesman for the Transport Department.

"Compared to the previous editions, this Guide has with it more new facilities such as Braille plates on Octopus Add Value Machines and ramps and wheelchair parking spaces inside bus compartments," added the spokesman.

"With this Guide and the facilities provided in the public transport, people with disabilities will find it much easier to get where they want to go and to integrate with society," he said.

The Guide is available at all District Offices, Rehabilitation and Elderly Offices of Social Welfare Department, Hospital Authority Building, Information counters in the Hong Kong International Airport and the Licensing Offices of the Transport Department.

It may soon be made available also on the Internet at http://www.td.gov.hk.

"A Guide to Public Transport for People with Disabilities" was first published in 1993 and last revised in 1996.
