Taxi drivers' opinions heard

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr Robert Footman, has collected some useful information about taxi service after talking to taxi drivers and passengers during a visit to a taxi stand at Star Ferry Piers, Central today (May 25).

Mr Footman also distributed to the taxi drivers the second issue of the Taxi 2000 Quarterly, a publication aimed at promoting the understanding between taxi drivers and passengers and encourage quality taxi service.

"Quality taxi service is the common goal shared by the government and the taxi trade. We shall continue to help the trade and look forward to working together the trade closely," said Mr Footman.

The Chairman of the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee Mr Jeffrey Lam also took part in the visit. The Committee was set up to work out a series of measures to improve the taxi service quality in Hong Kong.

Apart from the publication of the taxi newsletter, the government has also conducted surveys, planned taxi training programmes and launched award schemes.
