Further regulation of RS activities in busy areas

As part of the ongoing efforts to alleviate congestion in Central and Wan Chai districts, the Transport Department (TD) will implement further regulatory measures to deal with problems of traffic obstructions in busy areas caused by Residents' Services (RS) buses from next Monday (May 8).

These measures, which are the second stage of the scheme to rationalise RS operations, include the requirement of the RS operators to display on the nearside front window of buses a document showing the routeings and stops of the service approved by the TD.

There will also be regulation of stopping activities under which the boarding and alighting stops of RS will be rationalised.

Stop signs will be erected and three to four stops are allocated to each route in Central and Wan Chai Districts. The stops are within reasonable walking distance of destinations.

Passengers of RS may enquire the concerned RS operators or TD regarding the changes in routeing and stopping places.

A hotline 2829 5242 has been set up by the TD to answer enquiries between 9 am and 5 pm from now until May 6 and from 8 am to 7 pm between May 8 and 10.

Details of the routeings and stoppings are also available from the TD's Homepage (http://www.td.gov.hk).

Earlier in mid March, RS operators were requested to display on the window screen of the bus a standard yellow plate showing the route number and destinations of the service for easy identification of authorised RS buses.
