Privilege of pedestrians at Lan Kwai Fong further ensured

The privilege of pedestrians and tourists at Lan Kwai Fong, Central and in vicinity will be further ensured when a part-time pedestrian scheme takes effect from tomorrow (November 16).

A Transport Department spokesman announced today (November 15) that with effect from November 16, Lan Kwai Fong, D'Aguilar Street and Wo On Lane, Central will be pedestrianised between 4 pm and 4 am the next morning from Fridays to Sundays and on public holidays.

He said: "Lan Kwai Fong, one of the most hustling and bustling streets in Hong Kong, and its nearby streets have attracted over hundreds of people and tourists during weekends and festivals.

With the implementation of pedestrianisation, people can enjoy a safe and comfortable walking environment."

On November 17, a part-time pedestrian scheme will be put on trial at Stanley Market Road and Stanley Main Street in Stanley between 7 pm and 10 am on Saturdays. The scheme will be on trial for three months before it becomes permanent.

Stanley Market Road, Stanley Main Street and Stanley New Street have already been designated as pedestrian streets between 11 am and 6 pm on Sundays and public holidays since April 29 this year.

The spokesman reminded motorists not to enter these streets during the pedestrianisation hours and to pay attention to traffic signs provided on site.
