Tate's Cairn Tunnel BBI Scheme offers more convenience

More bus passengers will gain benefits from a wider bus network with more choices of bus routes at discounted fares when another six bus routes passing through the Tate's Cairn Tunnel are operating under a bus-bus interchange scheme tomorrow (December 28).

The scheme, to be operated by Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB), involves two packages of bus routes:

First package

* 82X (Ravana Garden - Wong Tai Sin) (Circular)
* 85C (Ma On Shan Town Centre - Hung Hom Ferry Pier)
* 89D (Lee On - Lam Tin MTR Station)

Second package

* 74X (Tai Po Town Centre - Kwun Tong Ferry Pier)
* 75X (Fu Shin - Kowloon City Ferry Pier)
* 85C (Ma On Shan Town Centre - Hung Hom Ferry Pier)

Octopus holders who take bus route 82X may interchange with bus routes 85C or 89D at any of the bus stops where services of the routes are available.

For the second package, passengers of routes 74X or 75X may take route 85C at any of the bus stops where services of the routes are available.

A concession of $3.5 will be offered to passengers on the second leg of the journey.

Unvealing details of the Tate's Cairn Tunnel BBI Scheme today (December 27), a spokesman for the Transport Department said this would be the sixth BBI scheme implemented this year.

He said: "To expand the coverage of the existing bus network and to improve the operational efficiency of bus services, we have introduced BBI at Kwun Tong Road, Causeway Road, Western Harbour Crossing Toll Plaza, Wan Chai Ferry Pier and Tin Shui Wai Town Centre.

"The schemes are well-received by the public at large as passengers are given a wider bus network with more choices of bus routes at concessionary fares.

"Given the limited road space in Hong Kong, the schemes help reduce the unnecessary duplication generated by point-to-point services and minimise the need to introduce new long haul bus routes.

"We believe BBI schemes will help improve traffic at busy corridors and provide better environment," he added.
