Commissioner for Transport distributes language CDs

The Commissioner for Transport, Mr Robert Footman, today (November 27) appealed to taxi drivers to improve their service quality through continuous self-learning when he distributed the Workplace English and Putonghua Programme learning kits to them at the LPG Stations in West Kowloon and Tai Po respectively.

The Workplace English and Putonghua Programme for Taxi Drivers is one of the initiatives the Transport Department has taken to improve the taxi service quality.

The Programme comprises over 40,000 sets of learning kits and a homepage that contain easy and simple communication examples about greetings, asking for destinations, collecting fares, etc, and useful vocabularies that include names of popular streets and buildings.

Since its launch on November 17, the learning kits have become very popular among taxi drivers.

A spokesman for the Transport Department reminded taxi drivers to bring along with them their taxi driving licences and taxi driver identity cards when they are to collect the free learning kits.

Since some distribution centres may have run out of copies, taxi drivers are advised to make a call before they set out to the specific centre.
