More clearways lifted for road users

Vehicle stopping restrictions at 24 road sections in various parts of Hong Kong have been lifted since April this year. The relaxation is part of the Transport Department's on-going clearway relaxation programme aimed at providing more convenience to road users, including taxi and public light bus passengers, while maintaining smooth traffic and safety on roads.

A total of 14 locations over the territory have been relaxed in an earlier exercise held in March this year.

A spokesman for the department said the road sections involved were chosen after careful examination of the existing traffic flow and condition. The department will keep a close watch on the traffic condition after the implementation of the relaxation scheme and make suitable adjustments whenever necessary.

In addition, a taxi drop-off point has also been designated in Sai Yeung Choi Street South outside CRC Department Store since June this year to facilitate taxi passengers as part of the department's on-going efforts in improving the quality of taxi services.

The spokesman said the drop-off point at Sai Yeung Choi Street South was the second in Mong Kok and the eighth over the territory, which had been generally well utilized. He reminded both taxi drivers and passengers that picking up of passengers were strictly prohibited at taxi drip-off points.

"We will continue to examine the possibility of extending similar relaxation and introducing more taxi drop-off points to other suitable locations to provide more convenience to road users," the spokesman said.
