New ferry service between Tuen Mun and Tai O to commence tomorrow

The Transport Department reminds ferry passengers that a new daily ferry service between Tuen Mun and Tai O via Sha Lo Wan to be operated by Lee Tat Passenger Service Ltd (Lee Tat) will be introduced tomorrow (July 22) and the recreational route between Central and Tai O via Tuen Mun and Sha Lo Wan is no longer in service.

The new ferry service will provide four sailings each day on weekdays, six sailings on Saturdays and 10 sailings on Sundays and public holidays. The fare for the journey between Tuen Mun and Tai O is $28, and the fares between Tuen Mun and Sha Lo Wan and between Sha Lo Wan and Tai O are $22 and $15 respectively.

A Transport Department spokesman said that compared to the previous recreational service, the new ferry service would have shorter journey time, higher service frequency and longer service time.

Also effective from tomorrow, the berthing point of the ferry service between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui (East) will be relocated from its existing berthing point at Tsim Sha Tsui (East) Promenade in front of Shangri-La Hotel to a point approximately 300 metres eastward near the Grand Stanford Harbour View Hotel, a location which is found to be more convenient to many passengers.

Notice about the new ferry service and the relocation of the ferry berthing point will be put up at the ferry piers and on ferries concerned.

"The department will closely monitor the situation and make adjustments when necessary," said the spokesman.
