Sai Yeung Choi Street South to be pedestrianised on Wednesday

The Transport Department (TD) announces that all vehicles will be banned from entering Sai Yeung Choi Street South between Nelson Street and Soy Street from 4 pm to 12 mid-night this Wednesday (September 13) during which period the street section will be designated as a pedestrian zone.

A TD spokesman said the above arrangement was the second phase of a part-time pedestrianisation scheme which was being implemented for a trial purpose in the area around Sai Yeung Choi Street South since August to enhance road safety and improve pedestrian environment.

"The result of the trial implementation of the scheme on this public holiday will be evaluated before a final decision is to be made on whether the specific street section should be permanently designated as a part-time pedestrian zone daily between 4 pm and 12 mid-night from Monday to Saturday," said the spokesman.

"The part-time pedestrianisation during its trial period on a larger section of Sai Yeung Choi Street South and other streets nearby on Sundays well serves the purpose of separating traffic from pedestrian flow, thus achieving our aim of introducing such a scheme."

The spokesman also reminded motorists to pay attention to the traffic diversions that had taken effect since August.

"The department will closely monitor the traffic situation on September 13, and appropriate adjustments will be made whenever necessary," said the spokesman.
