Causeway Bay BBI scheme in operation on Saturday

To improve bus network coverage to the benefit of bus passengers, a bus-bus interchange (BBI) scheme involving six New World First Bus (NWFB) routes will be implemented in Causeway Bay from this Saturday (August 26) onwards.

The scheme will benefit the passengers of four NWFB Eastern District routes 2A, 2X, 8 and 8P, as well as two Southern District routes 38 and 42.

Passengers using the same Octopus Card may interchange from these Southern District routes to the Eastern District routes at the bus stop on Hennessy Road eastbound outside Sogo Department Store or at the one on Causeway Road eastbound outside Victoria Park. They will enjoy a discount of $1 on the second leg of the journey.

The same concession will also be offered to Octopus Card users who interchange from the Eastern District routes to the Southern District routes at the bus stop on Causeway Road westbound outside Central Library or at the one on Hennessy Road westbound outside Hennessy Centre.

Unveiling details of the Causeway Bay BBI scheme today (August 23), a spokesman for the Transport Department said the scheme would reduce the need for direct bus routes between Southern and Eastern Districts and hence would improve traffic flow and air quality in the areas.

He said: "The introduction of BBI schemes will offer bus passengers more choices with existing routes to reach their destinations through the interchanging of bus services at a discounted fare."

The spokesman pointed out that similar schemes were introduced at Kwun Tong Road in March and at Western Harbour Crossing Toll Plaza in June this year to give bus passengers more convenience.

"We are also working out similar schemes for implementation in the coming year," added the spokesman.
