Special arrangements for 2005 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade

The Transport Department has reminded people that the New Year's Night parade will be held at 8pm on February 9 at the Tamar Site, Admiralty. The parade will start at Tamar Site, continue along Lung Wui Road, Fenwick Pier Street, Convention Avenue, Fleming Road, Harbour Road and back to Tamar Site.

To facilitate the event, a series of temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in Admiralty north and Wan Chai north from 5pm to midnight. The arrangements include:

1. Road closure and traffic diversion will be implemented in the vicinity of Admiralty north and Wan Chai north, including the parade route which covers Lung Wui Road, Fenwick Pier Street, Convention Avenue, Fleming Road and Harbour Road. Appropriate traffic aids will be provided on site to inform motorists.

2. Regarding the public transport services, 20 bus routes, three green minibus routes and one Cross Boundary Coach Service which operate along the closed roads will be temporarily diverted. The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform affected passengers of the temporary arrangements.

3. The bus termini at Expo Drive East and Wan Chai Ferry Public Transport Interchange will also be suspended.

4. All bus stops, taxi stands, public light bus stands and roadside parking spaces within the closed roads will be temporarily suspended.

5. All vehicles will be prohibited from entering the carparks and hotels within the closed roads and vehicles parked in these carparks and hotels will not be permitted to leave until the closed roads are re-opened.

People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic obstruction, motorists are urged to exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police in the affected areas. The public should listen to the radio broadcasts for the latest traffic news.
