Public Transport Arrangements for Bun Scrambling Competition

Demand for public transport services, in particular ferry services to Cheung Chau will be high tomorrow (May 15) when the Bun Festival and Bun Scrambling Competition will be held on Cheung Chau. Transport Department will closely monitor the demand and liaise with the operator for adjusting departures to cope with passenger demand through the activation of the Emergency Transport Coordination Centre.

A Transport Department spokesman reminded members of the public to be patient and follow the instructions given by Police and the staff of public transport operators at Central and Cheung Chau Piers.

Ferry service plying between Central and Cheung Chau operated by New World First Ferry Services Limited (NWFF) will be strengthened on May 15.  Additional sailings will be operated to meet passenger demand as and when required.

Ferry and bus companies will arrange staff at sites to assist passengers queuing and closely monitor the passenger demand.  Transport Department will closely liaise with Police, Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Islands District Office to monitor the demand for public transport services.  Should Cheung Chau be overcrowded, additional sailings to Cheung Chau may be suspended.

To cater for the disperse of passengers after the “ Bun Scrambling Competition” held on May 16, NWFF will arrange additional sailing by triple deck ordinary ferry from Cheung Chau to Central at 1.15 am.  Besides, NWFF will arrange supplementary sailings to meet passenger demand if required.

To facilitate passengers at midnight from Cheung Chau to Central to interchange bus services at Central Ferry Pier, the corresponding departures between 2 am to 3 am for overnight bus routes no. N8X (to Siu Sai Wan (Island Resort)), N90 (to South Horizon), N182 (to Kwong Yuen) and N619 (to Shun Lee) will be diverted to route via Central Ferry Pier.  Passengers could use these services to New Territories East, Kowloon as well as Southern and Eastern Districts on Hong Kong Island.  Besides, passengers could go to Des Voeux Road Central to take N6 (to Stanley), N11 (to Airport via Tung Chung), N121 (to Ngau Tau Kok), N680 (to Ma On Shan), N691 (to Ma On Shan),  N962 (to Tuen Mun), N968 (to Yuen Long) and N969 (to Tin Shui Wai Town Centre).  At the same time, the bus companies will introduce a special cross harbour route 104R (Central Ferry to Mong Kok) at $13.5 to serve passengers.

Passengers are advised to plan their journey, watch out for the mass media messages on the latest situations and be patient and follow the instructions given by the Police and the staff of public transport operators at Central and Cheung Chau Piers.
