Update at 6 pm: congestion at Tai Po Road

Traffic from Kowloon to Sha Tin via Tai Po Road will be extremely congested tonight owing to urgent road repairs works at Tai Po Road near Tai Wai New Village.

Traffic is now operating one lane two ways and queues are building up.  At 6pm, had built up to near Lok Hop Village adjacent to Keng Hau Road for New Territories bound; and near Shing Mun Bridge for Kowloon bound.

As the lane may remain closed until tomorrow and because of the much reduced capacity of the road, traffic on Tai Po Road from Kowloon to Sha Tin will be very congested from this evening.  Motorists are advised to avoid using Tai Po Road and use alternative Shing Mun, Lion Rock or Tate's Cairn tunnels.

Motorists are advised to follow the instructions given by traffic police on site.

Transport Department will continue to monitor the traffic condition and give advice as appropriate.

Frequency and journey time of franchised bus services of KMB Routes No.72, 81 and 86 B will be affected by the congestion on Tai Po Road.  Passengers are advised to be patient or if possible change to KCR East Rail.
